A Vision of Compassionate Health Care for All People : My Story of St. Teresa Acupuncture Wellness Clinic

Description

Imagine every family in America having accessibility to affordable alternative medicine. Imagine every man, woman, and child having accessibility to a safe and natural medicine that is within their reach and within their means, whenever and wherever there is a need. This is the story of one woman's vision to transform the disparities and lack within the alternative medicine community and is a call to action relevant to every person in America today. This book unveils the illusion about traditional Chinese medicine as a viable health care alternative for all people. While Hollywood and the media portrayed an exotic image of Chinese medicine, the issues of cost, affordability, and accessibility were not readily touched upon. The choice to act toward an equitable, compassionate, and inclusive society and health care system is within each one of us. It is not about whether or not one can do it. It is about whether or not one wants to do it. A Vision of Compassionate Health Care for All People is the launch of a grassroots effort that carries the potential of becoming a widespread movement.

Michelle Friedman,Rachel Yehuda: The Art of Jewish Pastoral Counseling : A Guide for All Faiths

The Art of Jewish Pastoral Counseling : A Guide for All Faiths

Description

The Art of Jewish Pastoral Counseling provides a clear, practical guide to working with congregants in a range of settings and illustrates the skills and core principles needed for effective pastoral counseling. The material is drawn from Jewish life and rabbinic pastoral counseling, but the fundamental principles in these pages apply to all faith traditions and to a wide variety of counselling relationships. Drawing on relational psychodynamic ideas but writing in a very accessible style, Friedman and Yehuda cover when, how and why counseling may be sought, how to set up sessions, conduct the work in those sessions and deal with difficult situations, maintain confidentiality, conduct groupwork and approach traumatic and emotive subjects. They guide the reader through the foundational principles and topics of pastoral counseling and illustrate the journey with accessible and lively vignettes. By using real life examples accompanied by guided questions, the authors help readers to learn practical techniques as well as gain greater self-awareness of their own strengths and vulnerabilities. With a host of examples from pastoral and clinical experience, this book will be invaluable to anyone offering counselling to both the Jewish community and those of other faiths. The Art of Jewish Pastoral Counseling will appeal to psychoanalysts, particularly those working with Jewish clients, counselors, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts and rabbis offering pastoral counseling, as well as clergy of other faiths such as ministers, priests, imams and lay chaplains.

NIkolova Nataliya: Bulgarian and European Immigration and Asylum Policies

Bulgarian and European Immigration and Asylum Policies

Description

The research focuses on the comparative analysis of the Bulgarian and European Policies on asylum and immigration within the intensive framework of the European Integration process. The main case study is the elaboration of the Bulgarian Policies on migration and refugees after the fall of the Communism and in the relations with the accession process to the EU. The Chapter on the developments of the immigration and asylum Policies in Bulgaria – a main case study of this research , focuses on the progress in these fields since 1992. It argues that these Policies have been introduced after the beginning of the Democratization Process in 1989 and more specifically as conditionality-part of the EU Integration Process. It presents how the EU is exporting its emerging policies- including asylum and immigration policies to Bulgaria through the conditionality for EU membership. One of the issues which are discussed in the main case study argues that the Europeanization process and the conditionality for membership gives the Union significant leverage in transferring to the candidate countries its principles, norms, and as well in shaping their institutional and administrative structure.

In Man Enough, psychiatrist and family therapist Frank Pittman explores what it is like to grow up male today. With great poignancy, humor, and candor, he weaves together case studies from his practice, examples from literature and films, plus personal vignettes from his own experiences as a father to examine these hyper-masculine men and to illustrate how they developed and how they can change. Dr. Pittman asserts that men can move past proving their masculinity and start practicing it by striving with the other guys rather than against them, achieving equality and intimacy with their mates--and by fathering. A man raises himself as he raises children and learns to understand and forgive his parents as he becomes one. The exciting tale of a stuffed superhero's good deeds from Malorie Blackman for Egmont's Blue Banana series. Sinclair is no ordinary teddy bear. At Bulgarian and European Immigration and Asylum Policies free epub night, when his owner Emily is fast asleep, he becomes a Wonder Bear, flying all over the world, and magically changing himself into new materials to save people in danger. One night he's a very busy bear indeed. First in India, he changes into steel to mend a broken track before a train full of people arrives. Then in France, he transforms himself into a powerful magnet to help the Madame free her pet dog Lucile. In Australia, Sinclair turns into a window in a glass-bottomed boat to help his friend Captain Baz. Then he becomes stretchy rubber to save a little boy from the water. But after all that hard work even Wonder Bears get sleepy, and as the sun rises, he flies home to Emily before she wakes up. Blue bananas are chapter books for children learning to read, suitable for NC Level 2 readers. They are carefully designed educational books for children, supporting their understanding of how to read and develop vocabulary.

David Rakoff: Love, Dishonor, Marry, Die, Cherish, Perish

Love, Dishonor, Marry, Die, Cherish, Perish

Description

From the incomparable David Rakoff, a poignant, beautiful, witty, and wise novel in verse whose scope spans the twentieth century Through his books and his radio essays for NPR's "This American Life," David Rakoff has built a deserved reputation as one of the finest and funniest essayists of our time. Written with humor, sympathy, and tenderness, this intricately woven novel proves him to be the master of an altogether different art form. LOVE, DISHONOR, MARRY, DIE, CHERISH, PERISH leaps cities and decades as Rakoff sings the song of an America whose freedoms can be intoxicating, or brutal. The characters' lives are linked to each other by acts of generosity or cruelty. A daughter of Irish slaughterhouse workers in early-twentieth-century Chicago faces a desperate choice; a hobo offers an unexpected refuge on the rails during the Great Depression; a vivacious aunt provides her clever nephew a path out of the crushed dream of postwar Southern California; an office girl endures the casually vicious sexism of 1950s Manhattan; the young man from Southern California revels in the electrifying sexual and artistic openness of 1960s San Francisco, then later tends to dying friends and lovers as the AIDS pandemic devastates the community he cherishes; a love triangle reveals the empty materialism of the Reagan years; a marriage crumbles under the distinction between self-actualization and humanity; as the new century opens, a man who has lost his way finds a measure of peace in a photograph he discovers in an old box--an image of pure and simple joy that unites the themes of this brilliantly conceived work. Rakoff's insistence on beauty and the necessity of kindness in a selfish world raises the novel far above mere satire. A critic once called Rakoff "magnificent," a word that perfectly describes this wonderful novel in verse. "From the Hardcover edition."

Pam Montgomery,Stephen Harrod Buhner: Plant Spirit Healing: A Guide to Working with Plant Consciousness

Plant Spirit Healing: A Guide to Working with Plant Consciousness

Description

Indigenous healers and shamans have known since antiquity that plants possess a spirit essence that can communicate through light, sound, and vibration. Now scientific studies are verifying this understanding. Plant Spirit Healingreveals the power of plant spirits to join with human intelligence to bring about profound healing. These spirits take us beyond mere symptomatic treatment to aligning us with the vast web of nature. Plants are more than their chemical constituents. They are intelligent beings that have the capacity to raise consciousness to a level where true healing can take place. In this book, herbalist Pam Montgomery offers an understanding of the origins of disease and the therapeutic use of plant spirits to bring balance and healing. She offers a process engaging heart, soul, and spirit that she calls the triple spiral path. In our modern existence, we are increasingly challenged with broken hearts, souls in exile, and malnourished spirits. By working through the heart, we connect with the soul and gain access to spirit. She explains that the evolution of plants has always preceded their animal counterparts and that plant spirits offer a guide to our spiritual evolution--a stage of growth imperative not only for the healing of humans but also the healing of the earth.

Beating the Bullies: How Did Ben Help Himself?

Description

Ben is being bullied at school. There is a group of boys who kick him, shove him and call him names. But how can he tell his parents? Will they understand? And what if he tells them and it just gets worse? Experienced by one in five children at school, bullying can create a legacy which can be carried from childhood through to adulthood. Parents and teachers alike can often feel helpless about how best to intervene ...Designed for 7-11 year old boy and girl readers, this book is both a children's chapter book novel and a resource for parents and teachers. Written by Clinical Psychologist Dr Lucy Blunt and illustrated by her 10-year-old daughter Chloe Osborn, the book aims to 'upskill' the child. This is done by providing age appropriate information about bullying as well as skills and strategies to help 'bullyproof' the child. The children's novel is followed by a Parent/Teacher Guide, which aims to provide an informational context for the bullying dynamic and recommendations as to things the parent can do to help their child. The teacher guide also contains useful questions and group exercises which can be worked through with the class.
